Sytist Update 2.6 With New Photo Uploader Available

A new Sytist update (2.6) is now available that includes a New (non-flash) Photo Uploader

Not only does the new photo uploader not use flash, you also have the option to select a folder of photos to upload with supported browsers. If the folder you select contains sub-folders it will automatically create sub-galleries based on the folder structure.

Example, you have a main folder called "Bill & Gloria Wedding" and inside that are folders of photos call Ceremony, Reception, Bride & Groom, etc ... You select the Bill & Gloria folder and it will create sub-galleries Ceremony, Reception, Bride & Groom.

Unfortunately, at this time the selecting and uploading a "folder" does not work with Apple Safari (selecting & uploading photos does, just not selecting a folder), last tested with Safari 11.0.2. The Safari browser does not support the webkitRelativePath property which is needed to for this to work with folders.

Browsers that do support selecting a folder and latest versions tested:

  • Chrome (63)

  • Firefox (57)

  • Microsoft Edge (41)

  • Opera (49)

Additional options with the new uploader

  • Pause/restart the upload

  • Set a throttle if needed

  • The ability to change the photo resize values at the time of uploading.

  • Retry option for failed uploads

More information in the manual including uploading a CSV file for sub-gallery passwords.

This update also includes

  • Added being able to add up to 24 scheduled payments for invoices.

  • Added wall designer collection name to available collections

  • Added the option to not delete photos that have been purchased when deleting galleries in Settings -> Photo Settings

  • Fixed sharing of individual photos to facebook not showing the shared photo but instead the gallery preview photo because of changes Facebook made (removing the picture variable)

And a few other fixes. Click here for the complete change log for this update.

How to update:
The first time each day you log into the admin it will check for the update. If you have already logged into your admin today , then you won't get the notice until tomorrow.

If you are currently using version Sytist 1.0.0 or higher, you can have it check for the update again by clicking on Settings in the main menu. Then scroll down and below the left menu, click MySQL query. Copy the following line of code, paste it in the query box and click run.

UPDATE ms_history SET upgrade_check='';

Then return to your admin home page.

If the auto update feature won't work for you for some reason, you will have to manually update.

When using the auto update from the admin and it seems to hang when trying to unzip, then the ZIP functions are probably not enabled in the PHP on your hosting. You can contact your host and ask them to enable the ZIP functions in PHP.

Good to see this updated without having to resort to Flash, Tim. But as both a user of Apple products as well as Safari, sadly I don't ever think we'll see Apple adopting Mozilla API's at any time soon, as Apple always like to do their own thing. All these computer corporations are a PITA in my honest opinion.

It has always been a struggle to accommodate for different browsers.

Does uploading via FTP and processing still work?

Tom,

I'm a Mac user and I feel your pain about the uploading issues we run into. Since the feature isn't working with Safari, maybe look into this FTP process of uploading. It works great and it's fast!

If you haven't heard of Dropzone 3, it's a great app for Macs.

Just setup FTP profile on it and just drag and drop. It works by adding the main folder and it will do all the sub-folder inside of it too. Then process them on the page your adding them too.

Shawn,

Uploading via FTP and processing still works. This is how I currently add all my photos.

Tim, I love the update! I like having the ability to change the image size at the time of uploading the images. There used to be an option/link to change the upload quality, but it was removed with the new update. I used that feature all the time. Can you add a field for resize quality in the area that opens up when you click on "change photo sizes"?

Hi William. Thanks for that. I currently use (and always have used) Cyberduck. But I'll give that a whirl.
