Advice About Hosting And Needed Requirements

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some advice about hosting and computing power.

We are using Sytist to sell event photos of sports competitions. Usually we have a huge amount of photos per competition - up to 3000+ photos per day per competition and up to three concurrent competitions.

Our customers want - of course - to see the photos as soon as possible.

We are resizing the photos already pre-upload and usually upload the photos per FTP, import them into Sytist and directly moving them to Amazon S3.

Currently I have sytist running on a VPS at Hostgator. So far I have quite positive experiences with Hostgator but I'm thinking about changing the set up.

The huge amount of photos is causing some performance issues - especially the import and upload to Amazon S3 takes quite a while.

My question is now - can I improve the speed by changing the hardware set up? Like using Amazon EC2? Having more CPU power or RAM?

Has someone already experienced these problems and found some good solutions?

I would appreciate any input that could help me out.

Thanks in advance,

Andre

You may want to consider getting your own server and a business internet connection or a dedicated server. Even having VPS you are still on a shared hosting environment.

I would not recommend hosting with Amazon EC2. I know some people are or have but seems like a lot of problems.

You may have to company CPU and RAM. Look at some options knownhost.com offers.
