We had the same issue and it seems to be a webhoster Problem rather than a sytist error. After comparing different Solutions for Website / Database Backup I can strongly recommend this external backup solution

https://www.dropmysite.com/

- Absolutely no Installation required
- Just signup, enter FTP / Database credentials and that's it: Automatically (daily scheduled) backup of your Sytist-Website and Database
- Easy Recovery by few mouse-clicks

After a few minutes of Setup you can relax. Everything runs automatically. A Website-Monitor is included. You can setup an eMail-Notification when your Sytist-Website goes down for e. g. more than one Minute. Also you get informed, if there are any issues with the scheduled backup. Also you get informed, if your site is blacklisted e. g. on Google.

All included for only 29,99 USD / year(!) including 10 GB Storage. You can signup for a free Trial.

It is possible your host has the PHP system() command disabled. You should just make sure your host is doing regular backups.

I have backed up the SQL database using cPanel.
What other files and directories in the publicHTML directory do I need to backup?

It would be easier if I could mover sytist to its own directory in publicHTML.
Is that easy or hard to do?

If you want to backup the actual files and photos, you would need to download all the files and folders that start with sy-

If Sytist is in the public_html, just download that.

But the database holds all the data.
