This is their response to my WTF when they are now charging me almost $7 per month to support php5. Is the site functional without this feature? What should I tell them?

"Thank you for contacting us.

Please be informed that PHP Extended Support 5.2 is an outdated version of PHP that is not recommended for your websites. However, we still support that feature but you need to pay extra $6.77 per month. If you would like to be opted out, please make sure that your websites run the latest PHP version. We suggest that you contact our Server Department. Their direct number is 1-877-206-4255; option 4 or server247@1and1.com. They are open 24/7. Once your websites are compatible with the latest PHP version, we can go ahead and cancel the PHP Extended Support and provide you a refund. You can contact our Cancellation Team for that. Their direct number is 1-866-258-5616. They are open 8am-8pm EST, Mon-Sun. Thank you for your cooperation and we apologize for the inconvenience."

Do they offer PHP 5.4 or 5.6 without an extra charge? Sytist isn't ready for PHP7 yet.

Yes, it won't be billed extra if I have 5.4 or 5.6. What do I need to do to activate it as that? Does something need to be changed on the site?

You may be able to change it in your hosting control panel. If not, your host can change it. It's not a setting in Sytist.

Interesting, that they could have asked and changed it but instead, they opted to charge me for it! I told them I don't need php5.2 anymore and poof, they changed my billing. I hope that means they'll do me right and NOT put me at the 5.7, which I specifically told them won't work.

Thanks for clarifying, Tim.
