I have rejigged my galleries somewhat and have combined different galleries into one larger one for easier manageability.
However, I have registered users with the older galleries.
Can I reassign these users to the new combined galleries at all?

There is not a way to assign users from one gallery to another one. You will have to manually assign each one.
