Google And Photo Searches

I was always told to name my photos with key words as Google will index this information. And therefore get you better SEO. However, in looking at my Google webmaster tools I see my photos are not indexed with Sytist. Do I need to turn off "Disable Right Click" or do I need to turn on "Enable Photo Search" in order for Google to crawl my photos and index them? Or is there something else "under the hood" that I need to do?

I normally don't want google to crawl my galleries. Instead I want all bots to crawl and index only those images I've posted on my site.

With that said, I have not noticed that google has indexed any of my galleries as well. It could be because there might not be any description or alt tags. Maybe even because of password protected galleries. I'm not sure.

Try doing a site search: site:mydomain.com some-term and see what you find.

This is only a very small portion of the 1000 plus images I have uploaded. And it appears that these are images that have been shared.

I want my public galleries "crawled". These are images I am posting and have no expectations of ever getting anything in return on them.

Would turning on the "searchable" feature help?

I am not really sure why then they are not being indexed. One thing I have for the next update is adding alt tags to the thumbnails which may help.

Turning on search will not make a difference.

And if you add photos to the text area of a page (uploading into the text editor), it would be good to click the photo in the editor, then click edit, and add a title to it so it created an alt tag with that title.

Google indexes very few images in a gallery, even with an alt tag. Example if 100 images have a similar name, "chatsworth wedding", "wedding in chatsworth", etc... Google may only index 1 or 2 images as a representative sample of the gallery. Over time more images may be indexed but don't expect too much.

Make sure your filenames use a dash , "chatsworth-wedding-party". dsc-1405.jpg means nothing and even if indexed you would never see it on any organic search.
