Error After Updating Site And Saving Theme

Hi Tim,

I got the following error when I updated my site, edited my theme and pushed the save change button.

Fatal error: Uncaught TypeError: fputs(): Argument #1 ($stream) must be of type resource, bool given in E:HostingSpacesDeclercqsportinbeeld.bewwwrootsy-admintheme-edit.php:738 Stack trace: #0 E:HostingSpacesDeclercqsportinbeeld.bewwwrootsy-admintheme-edit.php(738): fputs() #1 {main} thrown in E:HostingSpacesDeclercqsportinbeeld.bewwwrootsy-admintheme-edit.php on line 738

So the theme isn't updated and on the home screen there is still the message: "To be sure any new CSS from the update is applied, edit your theme and just click the Save Changes button."

Thank you for taking a look at this!

Something on the server stopping the creation of the CSS file when you save your theme. Probably a permission issue in the root folder.

In your Sytist admin click Settings in the main menu then UNDERNEATH the left menu click "edit config file". Before the closing PHP tag which is ?>, copy the following line and paste it there and save

$setup['use_temp_css_file'] = true;

That will make it use the main css file and resolve your issue.

HI Tim,

sorry, that doesn't work.
First: I couldn't save the updated file
Message: Unable to create a backup file so no changes have been saved. You will need to manually change this file by downloading via FTP and editing or through the file manager in your hosting control panel

So I changed the file (added your line) using an ftp link, but that doesn't do the trick.

I now got a white screen with just the blue 'getting started' border.
But when I go back to the home screen, I still see the message that I have to save my theme.

I also checked the permitions on my site and I don't see anything strange here ...

If you want, I can give you the login and pasword you need by mail.

Greetings and thank you!

Since you can't save the config file it is definitely a permission issue. You need to make the main folder writable and that config file as well. You may have to change the permissions to 777.

You can send me link and username and password to admin and FTP info.
