Andy
Yes - I host on my synology - practically unlimited space.
hi Elizabeth can you help me with moving my site over? Or at least point me in the right direction to complete the process?
I am totally in the dark here.
Hi Andrew,
If you are totally in the dark, your site is also going to spend a lot of time in the dark and I would recommend you pay for a hosting service to ensure it stays up as its not just a one time setup, its ongoing maintenance (which is what you are paying for from an online host).
While self hosting, you would be responsible for your firewall and traffic routing (you'll need to replace your ISP's router at the very minimum), SSL certificates, DNS (as well as setting up SPF, DMARC etc so your emails don't go to spam), database back up, the server config (php version etc), cron jobs, and many server side SEO type activities such as ensuring your site is as fast as possible, always up, ideally fixed IP etc.
None of this is particularly difficult, but if you don't know, you don't know.
I'm afraid I can't help you, I just don't have the time, but if you learn all of the above (I'm pointing you in the right direction), then you will have no problems.
Good Luck
