Best Php Version To Use

Hello Tim. Quick question. What is the best PHP Version to use? I use the Bolded version listed below.

PHP 5.4
All files with the extension .php will be handled by the PHP 5.4 engine.
Legacy PHP with security updates. Compatible with most environments.

PHP 5.4 (Single php.ini)
Same as PHP 5.4, but all subdirectories will use ~/public_html/php.ini

PHP 5.4 (FastCGI)
All files with the extension .php will be handled by PHP 5.4 FastCGI processes.
FastCGI for PHP makes all your PHP applications run through mod_fastcgi instead of mod_suphp. This eliminates the overhead of loading the PHP interpreter on every hit. Since it is always in memory ready for the next hit, the responses will be generated faster.

PHP 5.6 [Beta, check site functionality for compatibility after enabling]
All files with the extension .php will be handled by the PHP 5.6 engine.
Latest version of PHP.

PHP 5.6 (Single php.ini) [Beta, check site functionality for compatibility after enabling]
Same as PHP 5.6, but all subdirectories will use ~/public_html/php.ini

PHP 5.6 (FastCGI) [Beta, check site functionality for compatibility after enabling]
All files with the extension .php will be handled by PHP 5.6 FastCGI processes.

I don't think you are going to see much difference if any in those PHP versions. Which is the best ... I really don't know. I would personally probably stick with 5.4 Fast CGI for now.

What version of PHP does stylist use? I just got a message from my internet company that I am going to be charged an additional monthly fee. I can go into my control panel and change what PHP I use, but I need to know what I need. Thanks!

The email says that php 7 is the current version and they want to charge me an extra $7 a month to keep using 5.4. Does this seem right or is it time to shop for a new service?

Yes, but you may run across php issues with Sytist. Tim needs to valid that you can run the current version. I believe Sytist was built on an early PHP version.

That does not seem right at all. That's actually ridiculous.

I host my sites on Amazon AWS and Hostmonster and have not ran into any of those issue.

I am not telling you to switch by any means, however; that sounds like a rediculous.

In the next update coming out next week, Sytist will be PHP 7 compatible.
