Important! Users Using Square For Payment - Update - 4.1.6 - Action Required

Key Points: 

Attention: Square has extended this deadline to October 31, 2022.

1) Square is removing the current integration Sytist uses (SqPaymentForm) on July 21, 2022.

2) The new Square "Web Payments" card processing has been added in the latest Sytist update 4.1.6 for the front end. 

3) Action Required: With the new update you will need to get your location ID and add it to your Square settings in Sytist. Step 5 in the Square instructions here.

4) It is still possible Square will stop working July 21, 2022 even with the updates.

The info:

Square is removing the functionality of the  sqPaymentForm which is the current integration in Sytist. It will stop working on July 21, 2022. 

They have a new integration "Web Payments" which has been integrated with the card processing for the front end in Sytist with Sytist version 4.1.6.

They have a newer backend (Payments API) which does the processing, however, it has not been updated in Sytist because of errors and which Square support  has not fixed yet. 

So it is still using the "Transactions API" for the backend that Square says is deprecated but should still continue to work. However, I have not received a straight answer on that.

This is the reason I say it is still possible it will stop working on July 21, 2022 even with the update. You might want to have a backup plan in place like using PayPal Standard Business or Stripe.

If you are using the Square payment option you will need to update to Sytist 4.1.6 before July 21, 2022.

Get your Square Location ID
After you have updated to Sytist 4.1.6 you will need to get a location ID from your square account and add it to your Square settings in Sytist (Settings -> Checkout & Payment). Step 5 in the Square instructions here.

Hi Tim
I am on version 3.2.2 and dont see anything on Admin payment Square page for adding a "location" .
My application ID and Token numbers are already in there and taking payments fine.
So what does that mean for me ? Is the Square payment going to quit working for me ?
I am not interested in goin to the current sytist version (studio is way too slow for that).

You have to update first.

Get your Square Location ID

Did the update, entered LocationID for Square, no go.
Ditched Square for Stripe, set it up; did a test run, get to check out page, enter credit card # and hit Pay and then greeted with blank screen and order not taken. Any thoughts?

A client just successfully made a Gift Card purchase with Square. Thought I would pass it on.

Hey Tim, I hope you are having a great weekend.

I am just getting caught up on all of this issue with Square but I did get the following email from Square. Does this mean if I just leave things alone it will still work? I was to go live with paid signups for grad photos last week. If its not broken I would like to just leave it alone. Please let me know your thoughts!

We wanted to inform you that the SqPaymentForm JavaScript library retirement has been extended to 2022-10-31 and its functionality will be shut off after this date. Additionally new applications will not be allowed to use SqPaymentForm from 2022-07-21.

SqPaymentForm has been deprecated since 2021-05-13 and replaced by Web Payments SDK. We encourage you to migrate as soon as possible by following this step-by-step migration guide.

Updating to php 8 has resolved the auto archive on download orders, however download collections are still not auto archiving.

Hi Tim.

Reading the above, is it possible that the new Square integration requires PHP 8?

I would like to stay on PHP 7 for now for other reasons.

The new square integration does not require PHP 8. The automatically archive download orders are not working because that code is missing from the new integration. Updating to PHP 8 would not fix it.

I am getting duplicate orders.
1 orders is complete and correct, second order is empty of items but getting charged the same as the original order. third time since I updated the square payments system.
I need to stop the duplicate orders as each customers thinks they did something wrong but I believe it has to do with both old and new system are enabled.
Need help to stop it from happening.

I can not recreate any duplicate orders.

Are the customers actually getting charged twice or is it sending out a second order with a new order number and not actually getting charged?

Hi, we renewed and upgraded our Sytist plan for the sole reason of continuing to use Square since our In Studio POS is also through Square and we'd like to keep everything in the same place.

Unfortunately the "fix" provided did not work and we had to hastily create a emergency Stripe account just to be able to continue accepting website payments!

We do not want to be with Stripe long term. When will this be 100% fixed so we can switch back to Square?

The duplicate orders were caused by using PHP 5 which starting with Sytist 4.1 it is no longer compatible with PHP 5.

So there are no issue with this. and Square is working fine.

If you can't get it to work, explain what the error is.

When I say that Square still stopped working after we upgraded and applied the "fix"(adding the location ID to our developer app). I mean that when the user clicks the CTA button after filling in their CC details it does nothing. No payment is processed, No transaction is completed.

Up until we did this (upgrade and fix), Square was working fine. Now it doesn't.

You are the only one I am aware of it is not working for.

You can email me the following for me to look into it:

1) Link to your Sytist admin.

As a follow up to Linda:
If you are still having square troubles, double check that the Location ID you copied and pasted wasn’t from the “Sandbox Mode” on the square app side. I had inadvertently copied the sandbox mode location ID and had pretty much the exact same issues Linda is seeing. As soon as I realized my “oops” it was a quick and easy fix.
Just an idea if nothing else has worked this far.

Tim, I am still not getting Square to work. I am on 4.1.6 and have copied the location to Systist. When a user tries to View Cart the screen goes blank. They tell me they cannot checkout.

It's not Square not working. The main Sytist page is not working so CHECKOUT is not working. Looks like you have the wrong index.php file in your Sytist folder on the server.
