I can download non green screen images with ease.

i suspect its a server issue, but what could be the problem?

Really no idea without trying it myself. You can email me the following for me to look into it:

1) The link / URL to your Sytist admin (where you log into your Sytist admin).
2) The admin username and password (or create me an admin account by clicking Admins in the upper right corner of the admin pages).

3) Where to download (Order? Front end or back end?)

It is basically just timing out.

The whole zip download process was redeveloped in the last update. See: Downloading Photos in Zip File, Updated in 4.4

For your  version see: Downloading Photos in Zip Files Issues

If you are getting and error message or a time out when attempting to download photos in a zip file you may need to reduce the number of photos per zip file in Settings -> Photo Settings.

The server will only be able to generate so many photos per zip depending on many different factors (server speed, cpu, memory, etc .... the photos sizes, if the photos are getting resized for the download or getting watermarked / logoed. ).

You may need to test out different amounts per zip file to see what number consistently works.
