Hi Tim ,
I'm working through getting our site whitelisted again . It was blacklisted by Outlook and other email providers in that family (Hotmail etc) , we think partly because of the sudden surge in volume at the first event of the season. The notification of gallery ready to view and the instant download notifications are both affected by Return to Sender (as per my previous topic post)
The biggest complaint from mail-tester.com is that we're sending HTML-only emails with no text alternative , these are generated by Sytist - is this something you can fix please ?
I understand that as we don't truly own our IP address we can't do anything about reverse-DNS lookups.
The other Sytist - based problem seems to be that there is no "unsubscribe" header in the auto generated messages, I think this is under your control?

There is nothing to fix. That link shows a score 9.1/10 so not bad.

It is not the email format causing "spamminess". It is mostly to do with the IP address and server. Most servers host hundreds of sites and one can be spamming which effects all sites on that server.

You can possibly look into using the PHPMailer option in Settings -> Mail Sending Settings which uses the mail servers instead of the server itself which can possibly help.

thanks for your note. The server is my own and doesn't host any other business, so the problem isn't there.

Despite the 9+ score on mail-tester.com , my carol@jayphotos.co.uk emails are being sent to junk mail by all email providers - the rot started in hotmail but is spreading , now affecting gmail, yahoo etc. Is anyone else having problems with the spam filters after sending out notification emails?

Things that would help would be a clear UNSUBSCRIBE option in the bulk emails that go out to notify when an album is ready to view , and the option to send plain text as well as html.


Are these things you can do in Sytist please ?

There is already an unsubscribe link at the bottom of all emails sent with the automated emails. You will see it in Settings -> Automated Emails under "Unsubscribe Text".

Unsubscribe Text
With the automated gallery expiring emails, it will add an unsubscribe option at the bottom of the email where they can opt to not receive any more emails.
If you no longer wish to receive this type of email from us, [UNSUBSCRIBE_LINK]click here[/UNSUBSCRIBE_LINK].
Use the bracket code [UNSUBSCRIBE_LINK] to open the link and [/UNSUBSCRIBE_LINK] to close it.

It seems that only the expiring gallery emails get the unsubscribe option by default , although I guess I can add it to all my emails - perfect if so !
Could be worth adding this to the Manual - unsubscribe doesn't bring anything up at present.

We only contact you about events where you've registered your interest.

You can [UNSUBSCRIBE_LINK] UNSUBSCRIBE [/UNSUBSCRIBE_LINK] at any time

Because it doesn't work with emails that are not sent with the automated emails.

If you have automated emails enabled the gallery invites, shopping cart reminders, galleries expiring, booking reminders will all have the unsubscribe link. Order emails, invoice emails will not and really no need for those.

So how are gallery invite to view emails and the thank you for your order emails sent out , if they are not "automated"?

I'm struggling to understand all this as despite the 9+ score on mail-tester.com , my carol@jayphotos.co.uk emails are being sent to junk mail by all email providers.
This started with the automated downloads when small digis were ordered , then went ballistic when we sent out a few hundred invitations to view galleries over 3 days.

I'm being advised that an unsubscribe link on all the automated emails (or emails that the site sends out automatically, if that's a different thing!) would be one thing we can do to avoid tipping this reaction. Therefore seems to me that having unsubscribe on Thank you for your order emails as well as the gallery ones might be useful?

Was there anything figured out on this? I am dealing with the same thing and have been advised to put the Unsubscribe link on all of the emails sent from the website, however it the "If you received this in error, did not sign up or wish to be removed, [UNSUBSCRIBE_LINK]click here to unsubscribe[/UNSUBSCRIBE_LINK]" does not work when we are sending emails from the people tab within a gallery.

Joey, I am having this same problem. Email log says they're sending...and yet 99% of them are not reaching anyone, including myself.
