When selecting "Click here to update the exisiting photos." an error is generated in the error log.
"PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '$value' (T_VARIABLE) in [path deleted]/htdocs/sy-admin/aws/Aws/functions.php on line 37".
No photos have been uploading to S3 since October, and consequently I have been filling up my server with my photos.

It sounds like you might need to have the PHP updated on your hosting. If you click Settings in your main menu then underneath the left menu click PHP info it will show you the PHP version.
If it is version 5.something, see if you or your host can update the PHP version to PHP 7.
