Retro-choosing A Print

If a person places an order and checks out without choosing a print component ( it happens sometimes, and I turned OFF the "you must make a selection" button as far more people get tripped on that whcih of course, can result in a no-sale.. )
But if they didn't choose ( 0/1 chosen ) and then realise and email .. is there a way of retroactively applying a print to that item? Currently I just tell them to fave/heart what they wanted .. no biggy, but just wondering if I can attach the choice to the order proper.
