Knownhost / Web Server Transfer Questions

Thinking of moving my site hosting to Knownhost.com. Currently a dedicated box co-colocated with a hosting company, moving to another dedicated box with knownhost. They have a migration service if I choose managed support.

Hosting requirements, chatted with their support, they had a question about the hosting requirements for the MySQL 5+ listed.

Does this mean that any version of MySQL above 5 is supported, including the most recent?

My current version of Sytist install sits at 3.7.2. Can that database (and install) be migrated to be current version of Sytist 4.5.5?

If so, what (if anything) would be lost in a migration? Current Sytist install has 10k plus users and orders registered, hundreds of thousands of images in the system both on that dedicated box, but also some on S3.

Completely understand there's going to be some $ for getting the latest Sytist versions, etc. Just wondering everyone's thoughts of what I'll run into.

Thanks in advance!

I believe Sytist is compatible up to MySQL 8.

You will probably need to update your Sytist before moving because that version is not compatible with PHP 8 and the new server will probably be running PHP 8.

You won't lose anything updating your Sytist.

Thanks Tim!

Looks like I might start 'fresh', require users to recreate their online accounts.

Database migration for my setup is questionable due to it being on an older CentOS system with MySQL 5.5, along with an old version of PHP (why I'm stuck at Sytist 3.7.2). Even starting the database update to 5.6 shows critical expected errors/possible data loss. The database it shows, is actually a PHOTOCART database. See attached.

So, if I start new, only transferring my email data from the old box.....can I change the current servers name (and DNS/etc) without breaking that system's Sytist 3.7.2 install? It's probably going to require another Sytist license also?

Currently: mydomainname.com (hosts 2023 and before events)

New Server: mydomainname.com (Sept 1st 2023 and after events, all email)

Current server then becomes: old.mydomainname.com (so customers can view old events for a  certain time period).

Thanks!

You are going to have to create the sub domain and update the A records to get the subdomain to point to the old server and main domain to the new server. Knownhost should be able to help that.

And since you will be running 2 installations you will need to purchase another copy. You can email me for a discount code.
