Attention

If your Photo Cart is suddenly getting a 500 error or only displaying a blank page then you or your hosting company has updated the PHP (programming language) to PHP 7 which Photo Cart is not compatible with (and will not be compatible with) mainly because of the removal of the my_sql functions which are replaced with my_sqli functions.

You would need to have the PHP version downgraded to 5.6 in order for Photo Cart to work. If downgrading the PHP doesn't work then you may have to update Photo Cart to the last version of 7. Download Photo Cart 7 upgrade files. Upgrade instructions.

Photo Cart was retired in 2015. Check out Sytist.

Why Are The Images Display Muddy Compared To The Actual Files?

Hi,

I am having an issue that is driving me a little crazy.

When I upload a gallery and look at the images, they seem to have a muddy brown tone. But they don't look like that before uploading. Now, to make sure that it wasn't something in the processing, I put a test image and activated the free download option. I download the image, set it beside the online version, and took a screen grab. The color is wildly different.

Does anyone know what might be going on here?

Thanks!

Hugh

I would start with the colorspace and make sure it's set to sRGB. What do you use to upload your images?

Thanks for the reply Bill.

Color space in Lightroom is set to Adobe 1998, and uploaded using ftp.

But my problem is - when I have the image pre upload, it's as I want. When I download the same image that I uploaded, we are still ok. It's how it's being displayed that is off. Does that make sense?

Images for the web must be in sRGB colorspace. There has been some discussion about some browser correctly translating other colorspace but it's hit and miss.

It's a colorspace issue 95% of the time.

Hi,

re-output using sRGB, and it is exactly the same. I tried viewing in a different browser, still there is a huge difference in color. Weird.

Thanks anyway Bill.

Bill is correct, it IS colorspace. Be sure Lightroom actually converted the colorspace from Adobe RGB to sRGB; if it just "said" it's sRGB in the saved file withoiut actually changing the pixels/color mapping then you wouldn't see any difference.

Hi Dave,

not sure what you mean. I went into Lightroom prefs and changed the file handling to sRGB. Is that what you mean?

Thanks!

Did you compare an Adobe RGB JPEG and the same image as an sRGB JPEG on your system? You should be able to see a subtle difference, especially in the reds and blues. If the two are 100% identical then Lightroom is likely not actually converting the image to sRGB even if it is marking the color profile as sRGB. What do the JPEG headers of the two images say?

I'll have to dig deeper. Right now, the images look vibrant before I upload then, and after I download - same image obviously. It's the display of them online that's wrong. They are fine on my computer. Am I making sense with this?

Absolutely and for every person who has seen this issue in the past, the problem was always the colorspace of the image. Are you creating a new Gallery and uploading the new sRGB images into that new Gallery to be sure you are seeing the new ones? If you upload via FTP or the limited "on page" upload mechanism of the Admin, it is not possible to "update" images in a Gallery (Dave's Uploader does support updating images but native Photo Cart does not), so you'd be seeing the same original images even after you uploaded the new ones.

Ah, now I see where you are coming from. Actually, I uploaded two entirely different galleries. I knew that repairing the first one might not give me an accurate result, so I created another. Now you see why I am so stumped! :-)
