Digital Downloads - 2 Products

I am going to offer mainly digital images as part of a change to my workflow. Some sepcialised printed products only.

I would like to offer a developing/editing service. Ie if a customer wishes to have their image professionally edited for a small extra cost they can. I know how to do that but I would like to offer it in 2 different sizes IE 3:2 and 3:4. Anyone (or Tim) know how this can be achieved please?

The only workaround I can think of is to create a client gallery and place the images in there for the client to download. This is a bit of work for a minimum charge though.

Hi Kel, Took me a minute to wrap my head around what you are trying to do and it sounds like you want customers to send you digital files to edit. And i do not mean to insult you if you have a long background in this industry. But i would just make one charge or levels of restoration if needed for editing any digital format, the reason is you will be getting tons of questions on what to order I.E "I have an apple phone what ratio is it" ..."I have a sony sure shot what ratio is this" with all due respect it really does not matter what the original censor ratio you will be editing is. Now if they want it cropped that term actually is "proportion" corresponding to that given ratio, so you will be working within that ratios proportion. Confused yet? Not to worry, many of customers that visited my lab would look like a deer in the headlights when I explained why the crop they wanted, would not work with the print size they wanted. Pre-cropping for them will limit them to that print size, and the proportions/reductions/reproductions to that size. I.E. cropped to fit a 4x6 will also work as 2x3 and 8x12 for example. so printing a 5x7 will have repercussions. Direct downloads in sytist does not allow the customer to crop, but you can set it up as a physical product like a print in order for them to show you what the crop is that they want. Then you would have to crop it and re-upload to their gallery like you indicated and then they would be able to download the final image. Cropping for the customer in my opinion will just create way more headaches. But if they want the Ex out of the photo by all means crop them out, LOL. The photo i attached i am sure gave many of customers nightmares.

G,day Vance

Thanks so much for replying.

"All my images"

I do sports and events. The 2 main sizes I used to print were 6x8" and 8x12" - hence the 2 ratios I suggested 2:3 and 3:4.

I am now no longer offering prints. Clients either hire me for the entire event and everybody gets free downloads or similar they pay me as a contractor and attendees get discounted images (digital only)

The editing is add on only and by offering the 2 sizes gives them the option of the most popular print sizes. Most of my images do not require quality editing but I thought cropping may interest some customers. I know people and they are mostly lazy or time poor.

What I am after is a customer purchasing a digital download and paying extra to have it edited. I have used an option previously whereby I can let the customer download a smaller version immediately but have to wait until I replaced the original image to download a larger image. I certainly can crop this to make it look better and replace the image but wanted to offer the 2 sizes so the customer has an immediate option for 3rd party printing.

Vance thanks for your input. I am a relative newcomer only 17 years doing this.

Just trying to utilise my website better.

Hi Kel, unfortunately sytist can not automatically crop to subject, you would have to upload duplicate files in your prefered proportions, so one file 6x8 and one file 8x12. The only thing sytist can do is general pixel sizes I.E. small 800 pixel (Long edge) large 2200 pixel (long edge) and so on. The way you have been doing it is your only option.

I don't understand what you are trying to accomplish.

Have them select either a 3:2 crop or a 3:4?

If so you could create a download product named something like edited and cropped download and create an option for that download to select the crop ratio then replace it on the order when you are finished editing.
