Helping Stop The Customer Being Dumb....

I have the option on my cart to buy individual files as digital images.
I also have the option to buy bundles of files as digital images either up to 3 or up to 10.

For every event i load I get at least 2 customers who then add 3 individual files, which costs them more than if they were to buy the bundle offer.

Is there a way that sytist can spot someone being dumb and either convert the order to the cheapest option or throw up a warning.

Recently someone added 10 individual files for £150 rather than take the 10 bundle for £40. I then have the task of refunding the difference or adding a credit to their account.

In this vein, could Sytist suggest that if they spend an additional X then they will get a discount of y

One way would be to eliminate the bundles and build in discounts to the price for files. as they buy more files the price per file drops.

If I adopt this approach can sytist be set to encourage customers to the next level of discount - eg order 1 more and the price drops.

at the moment with the bundle it's effectively buy 3 get 1 free and for those not sharing brain cells it seems to work well, and I offer the option to add more at a lower price so for those that want 4 its cheaper than the 10 bundle, but if they add 2 then its the same. Which was why I describe the packs as UP to 10

Sytist won't encourage them to select more for the discount, but it will show a link to view the quantity discount structure / prices.

Two suggestions I have for guiding customers to the right product:

First, make your product descriptions and/or section headings in your prices list very clear and bold. Add text that is very clear, something like "BEST FOR ONE OR TWO DOWNLOADS" on the single item, and "BEST FOR MULTIPLE DOWNLOADS" on the volume item. As a pro tip, you can add some code in your description to make the text stand out with colour:

<span style="color: red; font-weight: bold;">BEST FOR ONE DOWNLOAD</span>

(Cut and paste that code into your product description.)

My second suggestion would be using tiered pricing and fiddling with the quantity price to make it work for everyone. For myself I made a "download multi-pack" product, which gives the customer up to 20 downloads for one flat price (basically their entire gallery of graduation photos, we usually shoot around 15 images) and then charges $10 per extra photo.

I had to set the product pricing like this:
Quantity:
1 - 1: $199.99
2 - 2: $99.99
3 - 3: $66.66
4 - 4: $50
(and so on up to...)
20 - 0: $10
(the '0' at the end means to infinity and beyond)

If you do the math, each version will add up to (approximately) $199.99 at checkout. For those who want to select photos from a much larger gallery they can order this by using the favorites filter.

Anyway that's 2 ideas, hope it helps!
