When uploading photos, look in the upload dialog under Server Configurations. If your photos are larger than what shows for "Upload Max File Size" then that is the problem.
If you have been able to upload photos larger than that, then your host made some changes to PHP that reduced that value. You would need to contact your hosting company and have them increase the PHP variable: upload_max_filesize
