Apply Coupon After Order Has Been Placed

I offer discounts to certain clients and give them coupons, more often than not they forget to enter the coupon, so then I have to edit the orders and manually correct the price.
I've noticed if you "Edit Order" there is a place for "discount" and "Discount Name" but this does not actually apply the coupon, this seems to be a manual input.
Is this the correct way to adding discounts after the fact or how do you actually Apply one?

If you make any changes to the order like adding a coupon, you will have to redo the calculations on the order. It doesn't automatically do it.
