Moving Sytist To New Domain Name Address But Staying With The Same Host.

HI Tim et al.

As ever, thanks for such a great product.

Over my quiet period of the summer, I intend to:

1. Change the domain name and rebrand my ordering website, but stick with the same hosting company (as I have many domains with them).
2. Sort out the SSL certs
3. Move a lot of the images to Amazon S3 storage (probably, still considering this move)

My question is, do I need to back up the database and then reinstall the original systist files under the new domain name? Or can they just be transferred and simply update the sy config file? Will all previously made accounts, orders and favourites of customers transfer?

I imagine it would be eaiser to reinstall from new files, and just import the back up DB and reconfigure, but would that require me to temporariily have two sytist installations active? I think my original install files are by now very out of date.

Anybody else done this and could offer advice?

Thanks all,
K

When you add additional domains to your hosting account, it will create a folder for each. With your FTP program you can select all the files and folders from the folder your Sytist is installed in and drag them into the domain folder you want them in. And that's all.

So going from one domain name to another domain name doesn't require any other intervention, apart from the settings within the GUI ?

Also, should have said, that my current sytist installation is in a sub folder of my site, eg, www.mydomainOLD.com/findmyphotos and I am moving it to the root of the new ordering site, www.mydomainNEW.com. Will this have any effect, or can I again just drag and drop in filezilla?

Since it is currently in a sub folder, after you move the files, you will need to edit the sy-config.php file.

Look for this line: $setup['temp_url_folder'] = "/folder-name";

Delete that line.
