Photo Release With A Download Product

As of now, when a client purchases digital files from us, we always include a photo release pdf with the files, since so many commercial printing labs require to see one.
Is there a way to include our Photo Release PDF with the download whenever someone purchases a Download product? That would prevent us from having to go in and email that to everyone who purchases a digital product.

If you go to Settings -> Default Emails and edit the Order Email, there is a spot for Download description under the main email text.

There you could code in a link to a PDF file that displays on the order.

Upload the file to Design -> Misc. Images & Files. Copy the link.

And the code to make it a link in the download description.

<a href="http://www.yoursite.com/sy-misc/file-name.pdf">Click here to download release form</a>

Replace http://www.yoursite.com/sy-misc/file-name.pdf with the full link to the PDF file.

That would work but it's a bit klugy. Usually releases are customized per person/order so it would be better if there was a facility in each persons account that we could upload a release for a particular order.

We never customize our releases. We used to but found no value in it. Most photographers don't even provide a release at all so providing anything is a big step up.
We switched to generic releases about 5 years ago and have never had an issue.

Can the contract feature be used as a model release? Either when customer sign up or by downloading a picture ?

You can make a model release contract but you would have to create it and send it to the person. It can't be automatically done at sign up or downloading a picture.

Tim, how does an email link approach help with Instant Downloads? Are any email sent for those? I didn't think there was.

What I do is create a template called release in the contracts section.
I changed the word 'contract' to 'eDocuments' in the misc text area.
Then, I assign the release to a registered client. The client has to look at their eDocuments section to download and print the release.
I tell them that in the order email.
It's always there and customized to each registered person.
Additionally, you could also place a link as Tim talks about above on a default order email.
I find clients are cautious about clicking links in email so I just spell out the URL location of the document making it clickable or copy and pastable.
Since I have a template made, that is easy to customize for each client.

With instant downloads they don't get sent an email.

Maybe make a link to the release form in the Description area of your download products in Photo Products -> Product Base.

A usage license should not be made available to everyone via a simple link. It is essentially what clients are paying for when they purchase a download. It should only be given to clients that have actually paid for images.
