Photo Lab Ordering Option

Hello,

I believe I asked this last year but was wondering if you were going to be integrating a photo lab so that when customers place their orders they can be reviewed and then sent off to the lab instead of having to order the products ourselves, is that something that is still in the works? If so is there a time frame as to when that will happen and what company you might be working with ?

There is nothing currently in the works. I contacted Bay Photo about integrating with them, but they just gave me the runaround.

Try Richmond Pro Lab, they are both low and high volume. I currently use them and their volume price is nice, 79 cents per sheet.

I work with a lab in Canada called Technicare, they are fairly large sized and have a great array of products. Not sure if they'd be interested but if you want to I can get you connected with their owner as I'm one of their larger clients.

How about just creating the print ready files, separated into folders according to print size?

At least then it remains valid internationally, as we will all want our favourite local labs integrated. Plus some run labs themselves.

The need to upload full Res files will probably not make this viable for me though.

I use Bayphoto for 90% of my printing. Sad to see them not wanting to work with you on this.

I know so many other website/album companies all partner with Bayphoto, just not sure how they go about doing this.

It would be nice to see this intergated in the future.

@trailboy - I actually did this way back in the day in photocart, I always uploaded the high res folders, so i had photocart put them into a folder structure like.
$ordernumber
/4x6/$photos
/5x7/$photos
/albumpics/$photos

It worked perfectly for years and years! Idk if there is an API to stylist yet or not, logged in here to see lab integrations and such.

Also Tim, I started to write an integration with BayPhoto's API for photocart using a middle service, i never got all the way through testing but it was working, I was able to get the information for their API decently easy enough... Wonder what changed all these years!

I would recommend that you talk with Grant Steinle at Dwayne's Photo to partner with them. They're probably the biggest lab in North America for film developing and already have the infrastructure in place for doing high volume printing and international shipping. They are also a quality lab. If you don't know them, they're the last lab that was processing Kodachrome film into color. If you're interested, I would be happy to give Grant a call (I know him well) to see if I could open that door. I would be able to explain what Sytist is.

Greg I'm going to integrate my instance with WHCC for some products, they have an online album designer too it looks like :) I can't find the basic bay photo code anyway, and their API is not very well documented and you have to reach out to them, WHCC is posted publicly. I wouldn't want to integrate with a smaller lab, chances for stability are greater with a national/big lab.

Hello David...I don't understand at all what is involved in setting this up, only that there seems to be demand for it a likely a reason that a lot of Photographers aren't using Sytist and instead gravitate to something like Pixieset. I mention Dwayne's Photo because they are an international lab that has existed since 1956 and I know the owner there. They're proven bullet proof. I think such a partnership between Pictures Pro and Dwayne's would only be good for both parties...that said, I have no idea if they would be interested in talking but I'd be happy to give Grant a call to see if they would want to do something like that.

Are you with Pictures Pro or just an interested third party?

Not affiliated with Picture Pros, I'm just a user of the software. I haven't used the new sytist yet, just an old photocart user. Although previously my workflow was fine for my volume. I'm not making any official integrations or reselling them at all. It'd be extremely difficult to maintain updates/upgrades along with official releases, if I wasn't a large volume studio I wouldn't even think about it. I can write some terrible code and make things work lol, not claiming its very pretty all the time :)

back to the integration part, the lab would have to have an API, maintain it, and provide support for it..... WHCC has done a lot of work and has great documentation for their API, plus support for it. It'd be hard for a small lab to support that.

Well...they can see our conversation here if they ever want to do anything about it. So far as putting it together, I have no idea how it would work or what is needed. Sounds like you'd be a good tech for such a project. Up to Pictures Pro to reach out if they're interested. We are in fact a lab ourselves and use this software for clients to order prints from us after we develop or scan their already developed film ...no interest though in doing prints on that scale.

my implementation will likely be a 'hack job' I need to keep changes to the core files extremely limited to make upgrades easier, at least thats my goal without even looking at the files and code yet lol. It won't be pretty i'm sure...... i'm just trying to get by with what my studio needs. I'll likely be stuck on one version for very long periods of time so i don't risk breaking things.

@David - I think if Sytist could render orders from full res uploads (inc prints and collections) to different folders according to print sizes, that would be great. It would be a hole filled in Sytist and one that most Sytist customers would find useful no matter where they lived, and would go some way to answer people that keep asking for lab integration.
