Hello! I'm trying to create ordering/proofing galleries for school photos. I'd like to have them click on their school name and then see a list of all the classes in the school. At that point, the parent can click on their child's class, enter a password, and be able to view/purchase their child's photos.

Is this possible? I'm really having trouble getting it to work.

It is not that difficult:
Go to Site Content > Create a new section - Choose "Client event galleries"
Now you can add as many Galleries (for instance schools as you like).
So "Add New Gallery" , give it the name you want and define shipping, price list etc.on the right.
Go to "Photos" and you'll se a menu tab "Add sub galleries" hit it and a pop up windows will appear, you can then add as many sub galleries as you want with the ability to password protect them individually.
If you want to give one password only, in the previous steps you can password protect the whole main gallery.
