Photo Quality After Upload

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can advise me on the best practice for preparing photos for upload.
I edit in Lightroom and export @ 1080 longest edge @ 72dpi..They look fine in Lightroom, but loose contrast on upload. I have the quality set at 100, and the rest of the settings are set at default.

Many thanks in advance.

Andy.

Your images need to have the sRGB color profile, sounds like they do not. When they don’t have that color profile, it can make the images washed out or off color.

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the reply. They are exported with the colour profile sRGB. Do you think it makes a difference uploading the files already for the web. I didn't really want to upload the high res' versions if possible.
Many thanks ,
Andy

I would make them a little bigger, like 1600 pixels on the longest size.

And still keep it @ 72 dpi ?

Thanks,

Hi Tim,
I still can't get my uploaded images to look quite the same as they do when viewed in LR.
I export the raw @1600 px longest side @ 72dpi, and sharpened for screen( standard). I have the default- Large max image width 1500, resize quality set at 100 with no sharpening applied.
The photos in my Sytist gallery just don't look as sharp. Is there anyway to bypass the resizing part of the upload ? So I can just upload the photos @1600 px so they look the same.
Cheers,
Andy.

I don't understand why you are having a problem. No one else does. What is a link and password if needed where I can see a gallery with these photos?

And you should turn on sharpening in Settings -> Photo Settings and also set the quality to 85 - 90. 100 makes the file size too large.

Hi Tim,

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I don't think so. I've just uploaded 2 images to https://www.andyholdsworthphotography.com/clients/index.php?view=findphotos passcode test.
I will attach the 2 files here. There is defiantly a difference in quality. I exported them in LR-1800px @72 dpi sharpened for screen/standard..I've also turned on sharpening in the settings.
Thanks for you help in advance.
Andy.

We had the same issue with colours, exporting from photoshop or Lightroom. I had to change from pro-photo colour space to sRGB. Photos look now very close to the one on the computer. Hope this helps.....

The photos look fine to me but they are small. They are only 900 pixels on the longest size so that tells me either you are uploading smaller photos (only 900 pixels) or the size for your large photo is set to 900 in Settings -> Photo Settings.

Change the max width and height for your large photo to 1800.

And if the settings for the large photo is the same size or higher than the size you upload and you are not watermarking the images, then the large photo won't even get processed.

Hi Marek,
Thanks for your message, I already export in sRGB, but still have issues. But I'm going to try what Tim has just suggested.
Cheers,
Andy.

Thanks Tim,
I will change the pixel size in settings..Normally I would watermark my images, so it will be interesting to see if it makes difference.
Cheers,
Andy.
