does anyone know a way to embed (do_password) or something similar at the end of the gallery URL so I can create a QR code directly to a private gallery for attendees at an event?
Ideally Id like them to scan QR code and not have to enter the access code whilst keeping the gallery private to external users.

A password in the URL won't automatically give access or populate the password field.

It seems your primary goal is hiding the gallery more than security. Since you want the QR code to automatically do the password, just make a short simple access code. Also I suggest putting the actual URL on the form. some may want to look with a laptop or desktop.
