Backend Slowed To A Crawl

I am not sure where the problem lies but my Sytist Back end is moving so slow I can barely use it. I called my host company and as usual the only answer I get is that I need to contact the developer. I have Cleared out as much content as I could in case that could have been the issue but It is not changing. Mostly it is happening with anything I do in site content, gallery creation, attaching and emailing clients. I am literally waiting minutes for things to load that should take seconds. If anyone has a suggestion, or solution I would really appreciate it. We are doing high volume of sales this time of year and really need the site to work.

Thank you
Tim Foster

The front end is loading fine. You would need to email me admin link and credentials for me to see the backend.

The same thing was happening to me. I called my internet provider, and my hosting company. We never did figure it out.

You told me you deleted some old galleries and it was running better.

I had this problem and Tim did something that fixed it. I also deleted a LOT of photos :)

Yes, seems like deleting helped, but my hosting company said it was something with the server.

I am having the same problem. My file uploads are taking forever. I pinged my server and it is working fine, and my upload speeds are 430.52/30.97. Is my speed being throttled because I have not updated Sytist?

That is not the same problem as the other ones. You are saying upload is slow (which could simply be larger photo files you are uploading) and it is ridiculous to ask if you are being throttled because you have not updated.

Tim, sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. Just curious if that was happening. However, it is not the file size that is the problem. It it took 40 minutes to upload 76 files that average 35mb each.

Did you really mean 35MB? Because that is a huge file and it would take that long to upload. I just tested a 24MB upload and it took 30+ seconds to upload (nothing to do with Sytist, just upload speed of the ISP & uplink speed of the server) and then a few seconds to process.

Hi Tim, others,

Sytist usually works very well for most of my galeries. But today, the official announcements was made for the latest events and I got around 1500 to 1800 visitors in the first 2 hrs and 7000 + page views. The galleries (there are 2) contains between 27000 to 33000 pictures. The number of participants to this event was between 15000 and 20000 each day.

So today, Sytist has slowed to a crawl. Barely usable. People are complaining (obviously). I see on the server side the CPU load is really high. Disk space is at 40% and RAM is low as well. Bandwidth has gone up to 16 GB from 10 GB in only 4 hours.

My question is, do you know of a way to optimize Sytist ? A way to reduce the CPU consumption ?

I can connect and do stuff directly in MySQL and it is fast. Using CPanel is also very responsive. But the slowness is felt on all my other websites (running on the same server obviously). Some are using Sytist and others WordPress. All are affected.

Thanks for any pointers and suggestions. Tim, if you want to have a look, I can provide you with an admin access.

Regards,
Benoit

Go to Stats -> Shopping Carts. Delete older abandoned shopping carts.

Click Stats in the main menu and click the “Compile Older Stats” to reduce the rows in the stats table.

Click Settings in the main menu. Then under the left menu, click “Set Gallery Previews”. This process helps speed things up if you have a lot of sub galleries.

Go to Settings -> Backup Database and do the optimize database.

Thanks Tim,

I will try all of these and we'll see. But ...

There is almost no shopping carts (old that is). The site is fairly new.

As for stats, I need to keep them as the client wants to get them, for their own evaluation on the investment. Doing that will not erase these I hope ?

I don't use sub galleries.

I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again !
