Not sure if this has been caused with me playing around with https but received two notifications of payment but o orders. Checked orders and nothing there. Checked customers shopping carts and their selection is there but not processing the order.
Tried a test and this message flashed up briefly.

It looks like you have PayPal in test mode. Does it not say in red before you click the PayPal option that test mode is on and in Settings -> Checkout & Payment showing test mode is on?

When someone makes a payment with PayPal, PayPal sends an Instant Payment Notification (IPN) back to your Sytist to create the order. If you have received the PayPal payment and it didn’t create the order there can be a few reasons:

Your PayPal account is not a “Business Account”.

If your PayPal account is a “personal” account then you need to upgrade it to a business account.

Something is causing PayPal to not be able to communicate back to your Sytist like you host adding a firewall or blocking PayPal's IP address.

You can check the IPN history in your PayPal account to see if there are any errors. Log into your PayPal account then go to the following link:

https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-ipns-history

You should have a Search Results section. If nothing is in it, change the dates to when a payment was made.

Date/time created - Message ID - Status - Transaction ID

See what is under Status. If it says Disabled, then for some reason PayPal was not able to talk back to the server to update Sytist with the payment information and create the order.

You can check with your hosting company and see if they have any known issues with PayPal IPN and let them know something might be blocking it. PayPal has information about their IP address on this page if they are blocking PayPal for some reason:

https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/lifecycle/faq/#ipaddress

If your host is unable to resolve it, you can contact PayPal and see if they have any reason why it was disabled.

The issue is not within the Sytist code.

It would appear the IPN has been turned off in my Paypal account, unsure how or why!

The notification url, is that my web address or something else in Sytist?

It doesn't need to be on because Sytist sends the IPN with the payment, like it always has.

Do you have a SSL on your site? https? If not that might be the issue.

Hi Tim
No I dot have SSL as i would need to change my web package which I'm not prepared to do.

I have turned IPN on in paypal but also need to add notification url which I added this:
http://www.yourwebsite.com/sy-inc/store/payment/paypal-standard-return.php (changed "yourwebsite" to mine).

Strange (or coincidence) this happened all in same day but nothing I did should have altered my paypal details!

IPN history status is showing "retrying" , could this be pointing to something on my server?

It is retrying because it can not connect to your site. It is either going to be that you don't have a SSL installed on your site or your host has added a firewall that is blocking it.

So all I can do is wait for a reply from my host. I'll post back when I receive one.

Hi Tim
Since this issue occurred I have discovered the IPN in Paypal was turned off. So after turning it on I entered this in the notification url:
http://www.digitalphotoevents.co.uk/sy-inc/store/payment/paypal-standard-return.php

I then tried to as a test to resend the last payment received to see if it generated an order which it didnt although the status says "sent". The last four payments received which hasnt generated any orders on the website status still says "retrying".

I have contacted support at Fasthost stating the issue and they sent this reply:
"You mentioned 'I have been receiving notifications of payment but no orders from the website', in your last reply.
Can I clarify that this is an issue with the payment method on a website of yours, and not that you are having issues adding a PayPal agreement to the control panel.
If you could provide more information of the issue it would be much appreciated."

I have not changed anything in Sytist or Paypal since the last time I received an order in Sytist so really now at a loss to understand what is wrong and how to fix it.

Update
Plenty of conversations with Fasthost who claim there are no blocks or firewalls install to cause this. Any help please Tim as I'm getting nowhere!

Hi Tim
I did try to install SSL as per your instructions only to find out from my host it was not possible on my current server. Could it be something I've done in removing the script as there is no other reason for it to suddenly stop producing orders.

Unless you have modified some files, it is NOT a software / Sytist issue. I have given you all the possible reasons above.

I did try to install SSL as per your instructions only to find out from my host it was not possible on my current server.
Unless that server is from 1984, it can have a SSL / security certificate installed. You need to ask again and if they can't ask them to move you to another server.

Thanks for your continue help Tim but now I think I am getting out of my depth. When I checked the .htaccess it appears I have three. If I remember correctly you created one (.htaccess-sytist) when I couldnt log into my admin. One I think is from an old wordpress site and the third (.htaccessBAK) backup?

Ok so I have now exhausted everything I can.

Checked Paypal account and is business (although it worked for years).
Checked with host and no blocks or firewall added.
Also checked with host and not possible to add SSL on current server as its an old Linux shared server.
Only option is to update but would lose my unlimited storage deal and to replace would cost over £100 pcm.
Site has worked ok without SSL upto 14th of this month.

As I can now take this no further my only other options are to
1. delete whole site and re install fresh ( would take weeks to upload all galleries from fresh).
2. Move whole site to new host with SSL but no guarantee it would work once transferred.

Tim
I have emailed you asking if you could look at the site and see if any of the scripts have changed.

OK finally resolved this. Unsure how or why but by back tracking and reversing everything yesterday from paypal via host to website today it started to work!
