If You Don't Order This Then You Can Order This?

We're using this as photo lab software.

Once we create a gallery for people with the option of ordering downloads and/or prints from their film we've developed, we want to have an option where if they want their negatives returned that they can add that to the cart as a one time shipping and handling fee that is lower than our default shipping and handling fee. What I've done is set up "return negatives" as an item and put it in a buy all and made the price of that item the shipping and handling fee we want to charge, and then disabled the shipping and handling fee on the "return negatives" item.

One problem with this is that if they're ordering prints, we'd automatically return the negatives without them asking and charge nothing for it. We only want to charge for it if they're either order nothing from the gallery or only downloads from the gallery where nothing else needs to be shipped back.

Is there an elegant way of doing this?

Hi greg all products available have options you can add, just look for "Create New Option" there you can choose a drop down, check box ETC you can also add fee's to those options. below is a buy all, but this is an option for all products.

Thanks Vance! I appreciate the response.

This looks more like an "if you order this, then you can order this" vs an "if you don't order these type of items, then you can order this" ....basically we need an option where if people either order nothing or only items that are delivered online, then they can order their negatives to be returned. If they happen to have ordered prints then we'd automatically throw their negatives in with their package and no S&H fee beyond what is calculated for returning prints would apply.

Thoughts?

Hi Greg really not enough info here, but if you are taking orders online for film development or scanning i would create a store page like i just made for an example. So if someone wants a roll developed they pay for that first and then send it to you via mail ETC. Then once you have processed it then scanned it and uploaded to their gallery, then i would just make a normal price list for products and services just like a normal gallery, If you are not requiring payment prior to providing the service, then i would continue to use the "Collections" with options. Or a paid access which would cover the processing cost and once again just have a normal price list in that gallery so they can order. There are a ton of ways to make this work for you but like i said there is not enough info to go on.

Example of a gallery

I started a scanning service page something like this(these prices are not correct i was just getting the structure done.)

Thanks Vance!

It's really interesting to see how another photo lab is setting up and using this software. You're the first one I've come across. I actually had finally figured out that I had to add in the "return negatives" as a "store item" and set it so that it can only be ordered once. I think I have something that's workable now and not too confusing for the client. There's a lot to get your brain around on Sytist but that comes with how customizable it is.

We plan to do all of our billing in the future through Sytist because it gives us an payment interface where we can have both Stripe and Paypal in the same window and then migrate that all to quickbooks as payments are made. I was going to be using the manual "create invoice" but now you give me the idea that I can make all of our services as store items...that's another bridge to cross in the future though.

Thanks again for letting me see how you have things set up.

Greg, I am happy to have helped with some ideas. It does make me sad however that people would not want their negatives back. Been in the industry for 35 years and have seen just about every scenario on that matter, going through one right now with a friends farther that just past away. Keep those Negs peep's! yeah keep it simple i see far to many photog's on here making their site so complicated that it makes my eyes hurt. Anyways i am about to reboot my custom black and white and color darkroom services again, so i decided to start making pages and products for when i am ready to relaunch. Please post a link to your site, never know i may send or need work done in the interim, best regards and good luck.
