Hey, I'm asking the s/w to link to an external and it's not working.

The external link option only will link to the external link when you are viewing the category it is in when viewing a list of pages on the website. If you visit the page directly it does not. Old/odd option I probably should have removed by now.

What are you wanting to do? Create a page that when you visit it, it only goes to another page on another website?
Or are you trying to add a link on the page to click to go to another website?

Ok, so you mean the Blog link that is in your main menu.
Go to Design -> Menu Links. Delete your Blog link.
Then create a new link and enter in the URL you want it to go to.
