Users are unable to save a free download image when using Chrome, Firefox, or Opera for IOS. It is possible to save images in Safari.

The downloaded image loads in the browser ok, but the normal image save procedure of holding your finger down to get the context menu with the "save image" option does not work. All of these browsers seem to think it's a php file (freedownload.php) instead of a JPG image.

Opera says the file is "freedownload.php 2,000x3,000 pixels" ... so although it displays properly as an image, the browser thinks it showing a PHP file.

I'm not sure if this is a configuration issue with my server, or an issue with Sytist itself. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks.

I can't duplicate that.

Go to this gallery in the demo:
http://www.sytist.net/clients/places-around-the-world/

And see if it works there. I just tested it on that page and the free downloads saved fine.

Hi Tim, I tried the test page you showed me, same result as on my server. The image displays in the browser, but there is no option to "save image" to your camera roll.

This affects iOS versions of Chrome, Firefox, or Opera. Does work in Safari.

Tried it on my iPad and iPhone, same results on both devices.

Is it not just automatically downloading and saving without a prompt? That's kind of how the android does.

Correct, iOS doesn't allow a website to 'push' a file to your camera roll. You have to hold your finger on the image and select "save image" to save it to your device.

I think the optimal solution is for the image to load in the browser as an actual JPG file instead of the PHP file pushing it through as a binary attachment. In fact, I would personally prefer it work like this, even on desktop, as it gives me the opportunity to decide where I want to save the file instead of forcing it to the default download folder.

So you are saying the iPhone does not allow you to "download" anything? I guess I need to get an iPhone the next time I get a phone.

Correct. Users cannot save images downloaded from Sytist in 3 out of the 4 most popular iOS browser apps.

I have the same issues. I use Chrome on my iPad 99% of the time and I have been frustrated by the same behavior. I did just recently discover Safari works has discribed above. It would be nice if there was a solution. I’m not sure what my customers use as a browser but I do know that 80% of my customer come visit on their mobile device. So keeping them happy is a top priority for me.

Has there been any progress or work around on this topic?
My wife uses her iphone to download “webfiles” (the free download option attached to her account) so we can get things out on social media quickly during events. She has always used Chrome for this as she is a die hard google-er. A new phone for her brought about an update to her iOS version, and it seems problem affects Chrome running on iOS version 10 and above as her old phone (6s running an older version of iOS) worked just fine with Chrome.

I have tested the download on 3 different iphones since this post including the newest iphone and each of them downloaded fine (they would display on the screen to save). Maybe the download is automatically saving on the new phone.

Thanks for the quick reply Tim! Always appreciate you.

We are having the issue on 2 phones we got last week (a 7+ and an X). Safari downloads work fine: pops up with “download now”->image opens in news screens->long click “save to camera roll. On Chrome after clicking download now, the image opens in its own screen as usual, but long click doesn’t do anything and there aren’t any options on screen for saving.

I don’t think this is a Sytist problem...it is a Chrome problem. I searched “chrome not downloading images on iOS” and there are a lot of threads on the web of people having the same issue with any/all image downloads on sites with Chrome starting back in November.

Would the Hard Drive available space on the iPhone have anything do with being unable to download an image?
What if the images take up more HD space than the iPhone provides, wouldn't that prevent downloads?
