Attention
If your Photo Cart is suddenly getting a 500 error or only displaying a blank page then you or your hosting company has updated the PHP (programming language) to PHP 7 which Photo Cart is not compatible with (and will not be compatible with) mainly because of the removal of the my_sql functions which are replaced with my_sqli functions.
You would need to have the PHP version downgraded to 5.6 in order for Photo Cart to work. If downgrading the PHP doesn't work then you may have to update Photo Cart to the last version of 7. Download Photo Cart 7 upgrade files. Upgrade instructions.
Photo Cart was retired in 2015. Check out Sytist.

This is the first time using this feature. It allowed someone to download 3 images without paying. When I tested it out it never asked for payment. I did change a setting so it at least won't let them download until I okay it but still I need to figure out what is wrong. anyone else run into this? Tim any idea of what I did wrong?

I am going to guess you are referring to Sytist (you posted in the Photo Cart forum) and updated to 3.8.0 but have not done the follow-up update to 3.8.1 (now 3.8.2) which includes a fix:

Fixed in some scenarios while checking out and creating an account at checkout getting a grand total of $0 so not asking for payment when no shipping is being selected.
You should do the update which should be pending on your Sytist admin homepage.
