Attention

If your Photo Cart is suddenly getting a 500 error or only displaying a blank page then you or your hosting company has updated the PHP (programming language) to PHP 7 which Photo Cart is not compatible with (and will not be compatible with) mainly because of the removal of the my_sql functions which are replaced with my_sqli functions.

You would need to have the PHP version downgraded to 5.6 in order for Photo Cart to work. If downgrading the PHP doesn't work then you may have to update Photo Cart to the last version of 7. Download Photo Cart 7 upgrade files. Upgrade instructions.

Photo Cart was retired in 2015. Check out Sytist.

Without any updates to my site, I get the following message and no site available:
"Unable to connect to the databaseThe server requested authentication method unknown to the client"

Site is hosted by GoDaddy and has been running fine for the last few years.

They indicate no issues on their side but found issues with MS_config.php with redirects to another db.

Any help would be appreciated.

Something had to of changed on the server.

Go into your hosting control panel and into the database section. Check and make sure the database host name in the ms_config file is the same listed in the control panel.

And if you can create a new user for the dababase or at least change the password, create a new user or password then update the ms_config file with that new information.

If I have this right:
go to hosting; MySql db
I have two db; pcart_ and rossini_

I have these two lines in config:

$setup['pc_db_location'] = "sql5c2a.megasqlservers.com";
$setup['pc_db'] = "pcart_highlanddesignstudio_com";

What do I update and was this hacked? I am the only admin for this site

Did you used to host at another hosting company? Because I don't think sql5c2a.megasqlservers.com is a database host name for godaddy. Maybe you hosted somewhere else and never moved the database.

This was all working till recently and I did not change anything. GoDaddy was not aware of the db in question. I have the two MySql db set up with GoDaddy. As far as I know, no other db.

Years ago I did host at another site, but again years ago. And all has been working for the last few years.

Did you do the installation when you were hosting on another site?

sql5c2a.megasqlservers.com is not a database host name for godaddy databases.

So your site has been connecting to another database server ... probably the one you used years ago.

I am guessing you changed to godaddy hosting, moved the files, but did not move the database.

The error you are getting is most likely because the old database server has been updated, but the password currently being used does not match up (old database password format).

So what you will need to do is find out from whoever helped you with the site if there is still access to that database. And if so either have a new database user created and assigned to the database, then update your ms_config file with the new database username and password, or have the database exported so you can import it into a database on your godaddy hosting.

Tim, I found that the original site was indeed where the db was pointing. I had no idea. I contacted the person who helped me and he has sold the business and I do not think there will be any help coming from them. So, in that case, how do I correct this issue to point to Godaddy?

Is your Photo Cart working? If so, then it is your Website:D that was on the old database. Unless you can get a copy of that database, you will have to re-install from scratch. If you need the Website:D install files, send me an email so I can attach them.

Tim, All is OK now.
The db was located off site, which I did not know, and was made unavailable to me, causing the issue.
I replaced the db location name in the ms_config file to "localhost" changed the username and password and the site came back, although it did lose the last few years of update to the webD section, but I will accept that.

Thanks for all the help.
