Sytist Is Going Slow

i was having major problems with my other host and I just moved to VPS at Dreamhost. things started out great and sytist ran so fast. compared to my other host it was night and day on speed! i did all the migration myself and jsut followed the instructions in the sytist manual

i am now getting slow response times in sytist. it was working good yesterday and the day before. I have sytist installed to an /order/ directory under the root. my main site does not use sytist and I point all the people that are ordering photos to pages inside the order directory.

When i try and access my main site it loads fine, but when i try and go into any page or the admin panel that are all under the order directory I will often get pages that hang up and take forever to load.

what could possibly be the cause of this?

This is not a sytist problem, it is a server issue. Perhaps you are being throttled or you are close to out of room or approaching data transfer limits. Check with your host.

yes i hear what you are saying. I have contacted my host and they do not see any major issues on their end.

i do think, keeping fingers crossed as i say this that i may have solved the problem on my end. i had a temp url on my Dreamhost VPS when i signed up, eg: username.dreamhost.com. i migrated everything over to this temp domain to make sure everything worked before i transferred my domain from my other host. everythign was working nice and fast!

Once i had everything working i then transferred my domain and set sytist up under my main domain. however without thinking i left all the other sytist files in the other directory under the temp domain. so i had 2 sytists folders set up. Now i just started deleting the old folder with the sytist installation i dont need and things seem to be running so much smoother.

i am hoping and keeping fingers crossed that this will resolve the issue

Sounds good, but yeah sytist has nothing to do with speed whatsoever. That is server and how you have it set up.

yes well its looks as though everything is running fine as it should now. it was obviously something i did wrong or didn't do.

i also re-edited the sy-config.php. i noticed in a document on my hosts recommended settings for mysql not to use $setup['pc_db_location'] = "local host"; which is what my sy-config.php that imported from my old host was set to, but instead use $setup['pc_db_location'] = "mysql.username.dreamhosters.com"; which is what Dreamhost recommends.

also my ram usage was at around 85% and after i changed the sy-config it went down to 53%. i don't know if it had anything to do with that, but it seems like it did.

1) If you have the delete queue running from deleting galleries it can slow things down for you. To see if the delete queue is running click Settings in the main menu then it will show in the upper right corner of the white area of the page.

2) Connecting to the wrong / old database can cause that too but looks like you have checked the database.

Otherwise something on the server slowing it down.

Tim, thanks for your reply. After a few times contacting support with my host I can confirm It was a server issue.

I really didn't think anything was wrong with Sytist, but it was just odd that my site under the root worked fine but where sytist was installed under /order/ was running slow. plus I just moved from another host and wanted to make sure i didn't do anything wrong with the migration.

All is good now and other then the hiccups the last few days with my new host, sytist is running super smooth and faster then with my old host.
