Tags On Home Page Not Working Right

Any tags on my Home Page (https://lizandrews.com) actually reference "/home/" (which doesn't exist) on the tag page. All other page tags work properly.

This causes 404 errors on the site.

Do you mean links? Tags are used in a search box to find photos, like last name, subject matter ETC. and would be attached to the actual photo data. 404 means the page is not at that address and or does not exist. check the link and make sure that the path is correct.

Hi Vance,

Every page has "Metadata, Tags & Preview text", if you click on it you can select a tag for that page which helps with SEO as internal links build the tagged pages authority.

When you create a tag, sytist creates a new orphan page on your website that has links to all the pages where you used that tag. For example, my home town is Okotoks (Alberta) so I tag my homepage with Okotoks as shown in the screen shot below.

Sytist creates a page lizandrews.com/tags/okotoks and on that page it links back to the tagged page.

The problem is, the home page address when using tags, on the tag page, is not correct.

If you don't use tags, you won't run into this issue.

Ahh, i see your dilemma, there is no place to edit page tags only photo tags. Sorry sounded like you were using the search box.

Hi Vance,

I see you added a tag "Racing" to your site, I wonder what happens when you tag your homepage with that racing tag, and then goto the tagged page and click on the home page link it generates?

If its the same error as mine, it will try take you to https://www.frypanproductions.com/home/, which is a 404 error....

Hi Elizabeth, yes i did create a tag, although it did not actually create a page it just created a link to a non existing page. So yep just a little ooop's. The page tags are pretty much useless to me, i am not looking for any extra ranking in search engines on this site, pictures are not considered content by google or any search engine really. And my new studio site will be pretty much all password protected galleries and will expire so i really do not want that mapped in search engines. I will be doing more aggressive advertising and direct marketing to those types of services. Now if i was selling stock photo's,fine art ETC i may approach it differently. But i would then probably be doing more blogging and that would be better for search engines because of the text it can read. But a work around for this problem is maybe to just create a html page called home and upload via FTP and then do a redirect to where you want it to go. Or just do a redirect. Might work https://www.frypanproductions.com/home/

Tim - thank you!

Vance, search engines have come a long way, google vision identifies every image on your site now and incorporates it into the result/ranking. They not only identify whats in the image, but they scrape all the text too. You are right that the unique content found in blogs will rank you higher, I've only just started looking at SEO so I have a lot of blogs to write!

I've just removed my homepage tags until Tim gets a chance to fix it, redirects are a bad idea for SEO and will rank you lower if you have any. Sytist actually uses redirects natively on a handful of pages (such as your checkout), but they are marked noindex pages which means they are not included by the search engines so have no negative impact.

the below picture is a screenshot of googles own Vision AI which will scan your site:

Cool, and there is over 72,000 images on that site. On that site almost all of the drivers buy from me, don't think anyone else in the world will be buying these shots. So not worried about seo on this one. The new studio site will be a bit different. If you do not already use this tool check it out, SEOquake, it's a browser add on, gives you some good data about your site.
