Is Saratoga Hosting Still The Go To?

Hey Tim and Crew,
Is Saratoga hosting still the recommended hosting company? I have put a couple contacts through the website over the last year and have never heard anything back. I should have listened when you said Go-daddy wasn't very highly recommended, I couldn't be more frustrated with them!

Thanks.

I haven't spoke with Dave at Saratoga Hosting in a while, but should still be good.

Pridhams Studio, are you able to get ahold of him in the case of a problem quickly?

once I was set up and all my files and stuff transferred and my amazon s3 done etc etc
I have not had a problem.
I use to have 2 or 3 issues a week prior to the switch over but now it is fast , easy, have had no need for service in 16 months.
So I don't know how fast he responds :-)
wish I had a more specific answer for you....actually I'm glad I don't. sorry :-)

I use Saratoga and can’t say enough good things about it! I have been with them for about 2 years now (Went GoDaddy ->BlueHost->Saratoga).
Yes, the main Saratoga page is a bit outdated in appearance, and initially getting a response can seem slow (especially if coming from one of the big hosting companies that has a customer service department stashed away somewhere).

Saratoga in comparison is very small. The owner, Dave, is also the customer
Service rep, head troubleshooter, problem solver, IT mastermind and the main (and so far only) point of contact.

He was a life saver when it came to transferring my site over (and spent a lot of time helping offload a gigantic number of images over to Amazon S3). Took a couple weeks to get things totally set, but has been seamless since.

I have had one or two hiccups over the last couple years, one server side with something php related and one of my own doing. A quick email over to Dave with a 911 urgent tag and I got a phone call or response within the hour, again it’s impressive for being one person wearing many hats. Bear in mind, again he is a one man show... the guy has to sleep/tend to family needs too. Understanding that fact goes a long way to maintaining a happy working relationship with anyone. Our site gets a boat load of traffic... It’s stressful if/when something goes wrong and the site goes down, most definitely, but I Know it’s going to get fixed as quick as he can - usually within hours (and within reason).

He/Saratoga is very much the local mom and pop shop that offers an amazing service experience up against a flood of mega hosts.

I have never sat on hold with them - compared to hours on hold over the years with the big hosts. He is able to explain things very well and keeps all running smooth. Really felt like he took the time to get to know me, my business and what I needed/wanted out of my hosting service.

It was probably the best decision I have made for the web life of my site and my own piece of mind.

Just curious if people are still using Saratoga Hosting. I know they can be slow to respond to new inquiries, but how long should I wait? I emailed a week ago (their website says the phone number is just for emergencies) and haven't heard back. I'd like to use them, but I am running into a deadline with my current host and need to move soon. If not Saratoga, who is recommended? (I will not go back to GoDaddy.) Thanks!

I just wanted to update. I talked to Saratoga Hosting this afternoon. He's working hard to get caught up. Great conversation and very helpful guy. I'm looking forward to using them as my hosting.

I'm in Australia, so a whole other timezone away and it's still not a problem. Agree with Jon McCarthy, im not sure Dave actually ever does sleep - once set up ive had minimal interaction, which is just the way I like it, things go smoothly and a couple of times there has been hiccups in the last 2 years, he's on it, and he * works* it. I have no idea how many clients he has - i'd suspect quite a lot but he always makes you feel like he only works your account and yours alone. Like Pridhams studio, im glad I dont have too much more to add, it means things are going smoothly.

Cheers.
