Size Of Original Photos For Billboard/billboard Slideshow Etc

Howdy

Is there a place where it lists what size/dimensions photos (recommended starting point at least) should be cropped to prior to loading up into things like Billboard in the page editor? I can't seem to be able to get an entire image to fit? See attached images.
Always seems to be way bigger than needed (example 2). I can see how to adjust the margins and Content Width of the billboard (example 3) but any image being brought in just gets "centred" and there seems to be no way of "moving" to get composition correct. I thought -just crop to size" (Original Image)but it then seems to arbitrarily resize and the same issue occurs. I've tried every combination of sliders available.
Is there or can there be a list of recommended image sizes/dimensions to use for each of the available "design options?

Thanks
John

The photo fills the design element so the element is completely filled. There will always be some cropping. It does this so it can adjust to the screen resolution (computer, tablet and phone).

If it looked just like your first screenshot, then on the phone vertical it would be pretty small in height you would barely be able to see it.

Best thing would be to set it to a pixel height where it looks best on your screen.

You can use the older billboard method and you can get it closer and it will keep the ratio:
