Is there a way to enable right click in admin mode as spell checking would be handy to have. Currently its disabled across the whole site.

Right click is not disabled in the admin area. Might be something in your browser.

If you need right click enabled while using the page designer, you will need to turn off the disable right click in Settings -> admin/main settings.
