Cart "lost" In Space

This has me confused. I have a customer who has a login account and has added images to his cart. When we go to his profile page all we have is an old cart purchase and nothing else. Our Recent Carts stats shows his cart. How do we connect that cart back to his account?

Maybe the customer added to cart from one computer but created the account on another computer or device. If that is the case have them log in on the computer or devise they added items to their cart with.
