Mysql Challenges During Installation

Hi Tim,
We are upgrading from photocart to sytist. We had to allow our web hosting company to upgrade our web hosting account to a new version of server, to meet all of the requirements. We just did that yesterday. It killed photocart, as we suspected it might. Hurricane Electric - he.net, is our web hosting company. All new accounts come with a mysql database. The database name is the same as our account name, and each account is allowed only one database per account. We can create as many tables as we need within the database and we may use table name prefixes if needed. The MySQL database for your account was automatically created at the time of account creation. When configuring scripts within our account that need access to the database, make sure to set localhost as the host name. We can access and manage your database via SSH if needed. After logging in via SSH, we can access mysql with the following command: mysql -p username. It then prompts us for our MySQL password.
I can get into the mysql database using a command line SSH, but there are no tools provided by my web host (like cPanel) for me to work on our data base. I don't see any instructions or forum discussions regarding how we should proceed with installing Sytist, with everything set up the way it is. You installed Photocart for us years ago, and maybe I'll have to get you to do it again for us for Sytist. I wanted to tackle it myself, but I'm in over my head, and stuck, now that I've come this far. Would you provide us with some guidance, at this point? Thanks in advance. -Mike Gibson

When you are on the /install page when installing Sytist, just enter in that database information that they say was created. The database name, username and password.

Thank you Tim,
That makes sense - I didn't comprehend just what the install directions were telling me to do at that point.

Two other questions for you, before I proceed with the Sytist install:
I have no idea whether the MySQL database was wiped clean in the process of upgrading our account to the latest version server. If it's not empty, will that matter, or cause problems?
Also, we want to install Wordpress on our account, soon after we have Sytist up and running like we like it. Wordpress uses the MySQL database too. Since my web hosting only provides me with one MySQL database (with unlimited tables, as I understand it), do you have any idea how well Sytist and Wordpress will play together in the same MySQL database?

Thanks so much! We loved Photocart, and we're excited to begin using Sytist.

It will be fine if there are other tables in there. All of Sytist's database tables have a prefix of ms_ so there should be no conflicts. Should not be a problem sharing the database with wordpress.
