Management Interface Speed

My management interface seems to be getting ever more slower (customer side seems OK) I wondered if this may be down to my database size which is approx 600MB, a slow database server (which I cant find a way to diagnose) or something else

I had an issue with this when my storage on my server was over 90% full. Not sure if that's your issue but if you are running out of hosting space it will cause problems.

Unlimited hosting (or so they say) so should not be that problem.

Unlimited hosting, is really NOT unlimited.
They say unlimited disk space and that part is true. However, they will have limits on the total number of files and CPU/memory limits. Going over any of these limits could affect performance. In the example of CPU/Memory, most just throttle your speed until things slow down.
As far as disk space. Let's say you have unlimited disk space, you could have 100files = 4tb and be fine. However, you can not have 125,001 files = 25gb. *125,001 represents 125,000 file limit.

Here are some things that might help speed it up.
Go to Stats -> Shopping Carts. Delete older abandoned shopping carts.
Delete old galleries that are not needed.
Go to Settings -> Backup Database and do the optimize database.
Click Stats in the main menu. This will compile old stats and reduce the rows in the stats table.

I can not delete old galleries unfortunately. I regularly optimise the database, I only have a handful of shopping carts as i regularly purge, I have gone to the stats page.
i have been in touch with the webhosts and in no way am I having an issue with unlimited hosting.
Customer side seems OK
It is however still slow

It is just probably due to the amount of data in the system unless the database server is being slow. I am always looking into ways to speed things up when working on updates.

Something you can try that I have seen work in the past since you have had it installed for a long time is (though will take some work):
1) Create a new MySQL database & user in your hosting control panel.
2) Go into the PHPMyAdmin, select your current database and export it as a file.
3) Go into the new database you created in PHPMyAdmin and import that exported file.
4) Edit your sy-config.php file either through the file manger in your hosting control panel or download via FTP and edit in a text editor like notepad and update it with the new database name, username and password.
This will be a new database and possibly on a newer version of MySQL.

I have a Sytist site on 1and1 hosting unlimited.
I manage another Sytist site for someone else on Saratoga Hosting.
The Saratoga admin access is like driving a high-performance sports car compared to the 1and1 hosted site.
Safe to say it is your hosting company!

So I bit the bullet, upgraded hosting and had a lot of issues, many of which could have been avoided.
1. I had set up and tested Amazon S3 but only transferred 1 gallery
2. This meant about 800,000 images occupying approx 250GB of spaces
3. A database of nearly 600KB
4. A database backup would take anything like 6-10 minutes
Whilst i had unlimited hosting the web server was on one part of their system and the database server on another
Changing to an SSD VPS would mean both services co-located and therefore much faster
1. A VPS is limited capacity and the bigger the more expensive
Solution
1. remove unnecessary galleries (not immediately required)
2. move as much as possible to S3
3. re-upload galleries as required
The database reduced to about 200 KB but still took about 2 minutes to create a backup before transfer
After transfer it is almost instantaneous
Now to start adding those galleries back

I nose round and found that I had rather a lot of emails in the log so a quick delete and 200MB of database gone
I follow the steps now
Clean up email log
Clean up shopping carts
Set gallery previews
Click stats
Optimise databse
backup databse
Would be great to have that as on click functionality with the choice of 7, 14, 28 day history for emails and shopping carts
