I'm using g the advanced editor and I can't figure out how to resize photos or determine the correct size to crop them so they aren't cropped in the editor. I can tell that they are centered in the box but I don't want to just fill the box, I want to show my whole image.

The container boxes give you pixel proportions. You can either use photoshop etc to crop to the pixel dimensions and save for web or in the advanced editor change the pixel dimensions of the container to match the proportions of your photos. the second way create a new template before doing it because you are monkeying with the layout when you do it. If a row contains more than 1 photo I recommend changing all of the containers keeping sizes consistent with each other.

It really depends on where you are adding the photos. A lot of the areas it is designed to fill the container then resize the container to the screen size like the billboard/hero photos.
If you are adding photos to columns, then you can adjust the photo ratio of the photos which will remain the same at all screen resolutions. But you would need to post a screen shot of where you are referring to so I can tell you for sure.
