This option may already be available and staring me in the face.
How can a client purchase a gallery extension?
It seems to me, in the digital age, the gallery itself has become the product for some clients. Selling an expiration extension seems like a good idea.

What you would have to do it edit the gallery and change it to paid access

Got it.
Is it possible to do the following?
The gallery comes with the purchase of a session, so I would like to make it so when my customer, or anyone for that matter, first visits they are let in with no problem. The gallery then expires and automatically goes into a state of paid access where one payment will open the gallery to everyone for a predetermined amount of time..
Also, is it possible for the customer to purchase different amounts of gallery access time? For example, one week, one month, etc.
Thanks.

I understand. Do you think it's a good idea giving the customer multiple options of duration to extend the life of a gallery? Would love to have that ability.
For many clients, the gallery has become the product.
Another thing I get requests for in the same realm is to have a gallery put back online. Mostly for weddings. I charge an archival retrieval and gallery creation fee.

I just had one additional thought / question.
In a paid access gallery you have the ability to give the purchaser a credit. Could this be modified to give the credit in the form of a Download Credit? I would love that ability.
