Thumbnail Lists Numbers Of Photos In Gallery

I have dance photos on Sytyst and the photos are sorted by the costume that they wear.
Some of my clients don't realise that when they view the thumbnails of a sub-gallery, they need to click on the thumbnail to show the photos in that sub-gallery. They send me an email and write that they can't see their child as the thumbnail might show a different child but wearing the same costume.
Is there a way to show the numbers of photos in each sub-gallery the way it is shown in the admin section? Or a message on mouse hover that says "click to view more"?
I have enabled a splash screen that explain this but I don't think people read it :(
