View detailed information about this update in the changelog here.

If the update hangs on unzipping (Step 2), see the bottom of this message.

Some of the things included in this update:

  • Now compatible with PHP 8, up to 8.1. (This is the program language running on the server)

  • Added the option " Do not allow purchasing from multiple galleries on the same order". This is an option in the "settings" of your price lists, Photo Products -> Price Lists.

  • Added the option to require agreeing to terms & conditions when creating an account. Settings - Account Requirements.

  • Added the option to automatically arrange the photos by file name ascending in sub galleries when uploading folders for sub galleries into the main gallery for when the upload does not upload the photos in order (bug in Apple computers). Settings -> Photo Settings

  • Added the ability to batch send out downloads are ready emails. See #4 in this article.

  • Added the ability to set the default watermark & logo files and location on a per category basis. Edit the gallery section / category and go to Defaults -> Watermarking.

  • Added the ability to sort photos in proofing projects by status (approved, revision requests & rejects).

And more.

View the change log here.

How to update:
The first time each day you log into the admin it will check for the update. If you have already logged into your admin today, then you won't get the notice until tomorrow.

If you are currently using Sytist version 1.0.0 or higher, you can have it check for the update again by clicking on Settings in the main menu. Then scroll down and below the left menu, click MySQL query. Copy the following line of code, paste it in the query box and click run.

UPDATE ms_history SET upgrade_check='';

Then return to your admin home page.

If the auto update feature won't work for you for some reason, you will have to manually update.

When using the auto-update from the admin and it seems to hang when trying to unzip, then the ZIP functions are probably not enabled in the PHP on your hosting. If it used to work then your host probably changed something to cause the ZIP functions in PHP to go away. You can contact your hosting company and ask them to enable the ZIP functions in PHP.

Sounds like you might be on PHP 5. What is the PHP version? It will show you on the bottom of all your Sytist admin pages now. If it is 5 you will need to have it updated to at least 7.

Hi Tim

It would have been good to know that prior to upgrading and paying a years upgrade fee as I also run Photocart with 10 years worth of events on the same dedicated server which I believe is not compatible with later PHP versions so now I'm screwed unless you have a solution

I'm running PHP 5.64

I did not know when I put it out it was not compatible with PHP 5. I can't have compatibility with 8 & 5.

I'll cancel your update purchase, refund you and send you the files for the last version you can upload.

Thanks Tim

It's tricky with the two platforms co-existing on the same server, I may not be the only one in this situtation, at least we discovered it early.

I'm pretty sure we ascertained last time 5.64 was about as late as you could go with Photocart?

@Derek - Keep in mind that if you did in-fact want to upgrade to the latest Sytist version, and depending on your webhosting provider, you can actually simultaneously run both PHP 5.x and PHP 8.x (I'm actually running 5.2, 5.4, 5.6, 7.1, 7.3, and 8.1). It just requires some configuration of your web host and the application running the web platform. For example, here's a sample of my Apache configuration for my site running PHP 7.3.

ServerAdmin tkay@tomscomputersupport.com
DocumentRoot /var/www/html/thomaskayphotography.com/
ServerName thomaskayphotography.com
ServerAlias www.thomaskayphotography.com
DirectoryIndex index.php

AllowOverride All
Options +FollowSymLinks
Order allow,deny
Allow from all

SetHandler application/x-httpd-php73

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{SERVER_NAME} =www.thomaskayphotography.com [OR]
RewriteCond %{SERVER_NAME} =thomaskayphotography.com
RewriteRule ^ https://%{SERVER_NAME}%{REQUEST_URI} [END,NE,R=permanent]

Based on the directory or the ServerName function, you could run photo cart on 5.6.4 and run your sytist installation on PHP 8.1 if you so chose.
