Home Page Draft?

I've been doing some testing with the Page Designer feature and I wanted to use the cool layout features on my home page. I didn't want to experiment and do drafts of everything on my live site, so I made up a draft "top level page" as my new home page and I'm just about satisfied with how it looks.
Is there a way to 'migrate' this draft page so it becomes the Home Page? I didn't want to experiment with my live site and I'm not sure how else to do this. Do I need to basically re-upload and rewrite the home page?

Edit the page designer from your draft page. In the page designer options save it as a template.
Then edit your home page, go into the page designer then "Load" that template to the home page.
