Major Email Design Problems

Designing anything more than a basic text email in Sytist is a nightmare. I can't use any templates or designers to build a template. Even though my designs render perfectly in a browser or email client, when I post the raw code into the WYSIWYG designer (with the HTML code button engaged, of course), saving or switching back to WYSIWYG strips tons of tags and code, adds paragraph tags everywhere, resizes images, adds spaces, and overall leaves a total unsalvageable mess. I've tried everything, even going directly into the PHP tables and inserting my code in an attempt to bypass the WYSIWYG designer. My raw code appears in the database just fine. Sytist just throws up all over it.

Is there any way to make sure my raw code is getting output to emails? I don't need the WYSIWYG designer or any of that if there's a solution that requires it to be disabled. I use Coda to build and test my designs and can just copy/paste from there.

I guess worst-case scenario, does anyone have any designs they are willing to share that are pretty I can build from?

Email has always seemed a bit orphaned to me, needing a usability and features makeover. Tim has done a great job focusing on the most important elements in the program, but now that it is maturing I too am hopeful that there can be improvements in this area.

Since there is not an option to disable the editor, you would have to edit the sy-admin -> store -> default.emails.edit.php file and around line 98 remove this code

<?php
addEditor("email_message", "1", "500", "1"); ?>

Thanks Tim. I'll play with that this weekend and see what happens.
