Duplicates Of Files

Hi,

The website www.jgprintingservices.co.uk/picshop has just over 170,000 photos on it. My hosting provider is about to delete files as the website has over 1,000,000 files in it! The sy-photos' directory contains most of these (987653 of them). From here the directory breakdown is as follows:

547716 in the 2016 folder
292297 in the 2015 folder
147630 in the 2017 folder

Could you tell me why these folders seem to have duplicates for large, mini, original, small and th. Why is this only for 3 folders and not on the others?

Thanks,
Andrew

For each photo you upload, there are 5 files

mini
thumbnail
small
large
original

So that is why there are a lot of files. I am planning on doing away with the mini and thumbnail files, but not sure when that will happen.

How can I resolve the issue of so many files being uploaded onto the server. The hosting provider wants the number cut down or they will choose and do it for us if this is not resolved. These files do not exist for every folder that has been uploaded, they only exist in sy-photos for 3 years worth?

If there is a way to sort this out I would appreciate it otherwise I will have to split the site over 2 servers which is not ideal.

Thanks,
Andrew

You would have to delete some old galleries to delete photo files.

Another option would be to look into hosting the photos files on Amazon S3

Hi,

I am in the process of moving the site to a new hosting provider that hopefully does not complain about the duplication and number of files on the site. It is going to change from www.jgprintingservices.co.uk/picshop to www.sportingimagesni.co.uk/picshop. What changes do I need to make to sytist before I make this move and backup the mysql database?

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi, thank you for that, I have moved all the files but the new host is a different domain name, is there somewhere on Sytist I need to change this on before I backup the database?

There is nothing else you need to do outside of the directions in that link above.

Hi,

I have imported the database on to the new server which is under a different domain name but it is not connecting to it. If you look at www.sportingimagesni.co.uk/picshop you will see the error message. I have changed the details in the sy-config.php to the details of the new database but it is still not connecting.

Do you need FTP details to check and see what can be causing the issue.

Thanks,
Andrew

Further to this please see attached one of the settings in the new mysql database taken from the backup showing the old website address not the current one. The old one was www.jgprintingservices.co.uk/picshop and the new host is under www.sportingimagesni.co.uk/picshop

Thanks,
Andrew

The error is the connection to the database.

The $setup['pc_db_location'] "should" be localhost looking at the screen shot

$setup['pc_db_location'] = "localhost";

BUT according to this, it might be

mysql.freeola.net

Or

127.0.0.1

Instead. If neither of those work, you might need to find out from your host what to use for the database hostname.
