Hi,

Have run into an issue. An upgrade from EasyApache 3 to EasyApache 4 has caused this error to be shown:

Unable to connect to the databaseThe server requested authentication method unknown to the client

It is happening both from trying to connect to Photocart admin, or when accessing the Photocart installation itself.

Is there a way to recover from this?

So I'll answer my own question....was using a blanket approach to a critical issue, asking here, via my web colocation service support, and web searches.

There is a cPanel script that can be run to downgrade EasyApache 4 to EasyApache 3. I got lucky, and all seems back to normal after about 30 minutes of chugging on the script.

That message means you need to update the password for the database user. Something about the password being created in an old version of MySQL.

Want to revisit this....as an update to EasyApache 4 will bring a few new options my recent switch to Sytist (one being Square support).

If I update to EasyApache 4....it'll kill my Photocart install, and access to the admin. Customers do want access to old galleries.

Is this also the same issue for Sytist?

Timing question. Do this before or after updating to EasyApache 4? And, do I only need to login via CPanel, then save the database password again as the same/previous password, and things will be functioning normal again (for both Sytist and PC)?

Apologies, don't have a fallback/test server for this. Will be on a live PC and Sytist system....

EasyApache 4 won't have any affect on Sytist.

But Photo Cart is not compatible with PHP 7. So you will need to make sure PHP 5.6 is still available.

And if so, for the Photo Cart database, you will need to create a new user & password for the database, add it to the database, then update the setup.php file inside the Photo Cart with the new database username and password.

So...I could transfer Sytist setup to a completely new web server, with all latest software, and keep Photo Cart on the old server (but have to rename it, as the new server will be maintain the current domain name.

Right now-> Sytist and Photo Cart reside on domain1.com
After Migration -> Systist on domain1.com (new server), Photo Cart on renamed-domain.com (original install)

I understand I'll have to maintain SSL and DNS for renamed-domain.com which houses the original Photo Cart install, but what pieces/parts of Photo Cart will need to be 'edited' to keep it alive for renamed-domain.com?

Trying to weigh and think through if this is worth keeping the Photo Cart install alive.....or maybe just back fill old events as requested into Sytist (I am going to be utilizing AWS for added server space).

You would have to make any changes for Photo Cart. The domain will not make a difference.
