Attention
If your Photo Cart is suddenly getting a 500 error or only displaying a blank page then you or your hosting company has updated the PHP (programming language) to PHP 7 which Photo Cart is not compatible with (and will not be compatible with) mainly because of the removal of the my_sql functions which are replaced with my_sqli functions.
You would need to have the PHP version downgraded to 5.6 in order for Photo Cart to work. If downgrading the PHP doesn't work then you may have to update Photo Cart to the last version of 7. Download Photo Cart 7 upgrade files. Upgrade instructions.
Photo Cart was retired in 2015. Check out Sytist.
Wrong Characters After Upgrading From Php 5.3 To Php 5.6
Following the advice of my provider (hoster), I upgraded from PHP 5.3 to Version 5.6 last week.
I think from this moment on my Photo Cart database (I am running Photo Cart Version 7.1.0) has been displaying some characters wrong (in the admin area as well as in the customers area).
For example:
the currency character "?" (= Euro) is now displayed as "€"
the character "?" is now displayed as "ß"
the character "?" is displayed as "ö" and so on ..... (similar nonsense with "?" or "?" .... characters which are often used in Austria and Germany).
I think there is something wrong with the "character coding", isn?t it? I guess the coding should be "Unicode (UTF-8)".
It is curious that not every page is affected. There are some pages which are displayed correctly and other pages which are wrong.
How can I ensure now that each page uses the correct coding?
In the meanwhile I induced my provider to downgrade me again to PHP 5.3, but this was without results. The characters are now still wrong.
Can you help please?
And is there a way to upgrade to PHP 5.6 again and have then all characters correct?
Many thanks in advance!
Peter

Thank you for your prompt reply!
I have now downgraded to PHP 5.4.
Shall I now proceed with the same zip-file of the thread you mentioned?
And when I did this, should I stay with PHP 5.4 in the future or is it possible to upgrade then to 5.6 (I am asking because PHP 5.4 was only supported by my hoster until march 2015)
Thanks again
Peter
I did exactly the steps mentioned in the above thread and ..... everything works perfect now ... all characters are correct again ..... jippiyeahhhhhhh !!!
Then I was brave and upgraded first from PHP 5.4 to 5.5 .... and found again all characters in my Photo Cart correct!
GREAT!!!
Thank you very much!
Peter
Attention: PHP 5.6 seems not to work correct with Photo Cart 7.0.1 !!!
I always get the following error when I try to put an item in my shopping cart --> "There was a Problem with the request. (Code: 404)")
After downgrading to PHP 5.5 again everything seems to be ok now!
